BODO’S ON THE CORNER IS FINALLY OPEN

i’m totally not kidding. this is truly an amazing day. pictures are below. if you’re not from charlottesville, here’s the story:

bodo’s is a local bagel place that’s really awesome. before today, there were two locations in charlottesville with amazing business. back in 1995 or so (note, that’s 10+ YEARS AGO), construction began for a third bodo’s location on the corner, the hip strip of restaurants and stores for near UVA. year after year, people were anticipating the opening of another great bodo’s at a great location. a “COMING SOON” went up. i remember early in high school wondering, “when is the new bodo’s was going to open?”. around 1998-99, the sign was changed to “COMING”. if you walked by the location and peered inside, everything looked like it was ready to go the next day. what was going on? at various intervals rumors would circulate that it was going to open, but alas, it never would. its opening date had become a running joke around town: “i could earn three degrees from UVA before the new bodo’s will be open”.

for the past couple of weeks, rumors circulated again that bodo’s on the corner was going to open. but this time it “really was for real”. an opening date was set, people were being hired. the owner said so in interviews with local newspapers and press. i was skeptical, of course (you don’t know how many times gone there to buy bagels when i’ve heard it was “finally open”). so before throwing disc, than and i decided to trek by the corner today, the supposed grand opening date, to find out for ourselves. it is true. the new bodo’s is OPEN.
