Music, running, ultimate, and… UVA sports?
I just dropped $138 at Waterloo. All on shows. My wallet was literally cleaned out - the FunFunFunFest two-day pass, at $58, was cash only, and I had EXACTLY $58 in cash. Talk about luck. Now I need to hit up the ATM. I guess all the live music adds up. It’s worth it though - I’m so psyched for What Made Milwaukee Famous! And the other ones too, of course.
So I made my first attempt at the 10.1-mile Mopac-Longhorn Dam loop this morning. I barely made it - I was tired, dehydrated, and my legs felt like they had weights on them. All my own doing though - playing ultimate until 10pm last night = NOT SMART. Didn’t get enough sleep, didn’t have time to eat/drink enough water in the morning… I guess I should’ve thought about all this before going to play ultimate yesterday, but I just couldn’t help myself! I was in withdrawal. I hadn’t played in six whole days. But now I know. No ultimate for me the day before next week’s Marathon Relay race!
After the run I went to watch the 2nd half of the GT-UVA game. I know I’ve been extremely cynical of UVA football as of late, which is why I didn’t pay much attention to them last season and the beginning of this season. Even so, I still want to SEE them play when I can, because I do miss my UVA sports over here in TX. Anyway, I was expecting us to lose big. Sure, that’s a bit harsh, but really - who cares if we’re 2-0 in the ACC at the top of our division? We’re talking about DUKE and UNC here. Right. HUGE ACC powerhouses (*ahem* wrong sport *ahem*). Surprisingly, we were up 21-7 when I checked the score before heading out (but being a UVA fan, I know that such a lead means nothing). Of course, GaTech closed to 21-17 by halftime. In typical UVA fashion, we go scoreless in the 3rd quarter (why do we suck so bad in the 3rd quarter?), and thankfully GT only managed two FGs. But now they are in the lead! The 4th quarter was actually much more the same. Punt, punt… turnover… punt, punt. We couldn’t get anything going on offense (typical). We then get extremely lucky when GT botched a catch off the punt and turned it over on their own 20. We make one of our few pass plays of the day for a TD with 9 min left. GT had one last chance with just under 2 min left, but they totally killed themselves with penalties. So yeah. We won 28-23. We actually won! Having not watched our football team in awhile, I have to say not much has changed. We’re still strong with our running game (Peerman had 138 yds rushing - I guess we’re known for developing running backs?). We still have no great wide receivers. We still don’t have a secondary. And we still make stupid plays. Throw in the fact that Al Groh can’t decide on a quarterback. Good thing GT didn’t play well - they could’ve capitalized on our turnovers more, and they made more mistakes. Guess they’re cursed in Scott Stadium (they haven’t won there since 1990!).
So far today I’ve spent $138 on live music, watched UVA beat GaTech, run 10 miles… and it’s not yet 4pm! Now what? Nothing. Absolute nothing. I say this as I attempt to get up to drink some water. My legs are… sore.
