Getting back into the blogging state of mind
So I know as of late my blogging has been… well, pathetic. I was doing well for awhile, but then it stopped. Maybe I was too busy. Maybe I was too lazy. Maybe I was too lame. In any case, I’m hoping to go back to my blogging ways. It’s not like you missed much, though. Really, my life has been pretty much the same as before, i.e. The Big Four: Music, Running, Ultimate, and Sports.
So music wise… per the usual, I’ve been to shows. Back in December I saw Iron and Wine (sold out awesomeness) and went to 101X’s X’mas, which featured the Silversun Pickups, Britt Daniel, What Made Milwaukee Famous, and the Lemurs (just based on that lineup, obviously super-duper-soldout-awesomeness-multiplied-by-100). I saw Sons of Bill when I went back to Charlottesville over the holidays, the Old 97’s when I got back to Austin, and Bob Schneider on New Years Eve. January: saw a few bands during Emo’s free week, Matt the Electrician and Bob Schneider twice at the intimate The Saxon Pub. Feb: Band of Horses on Superbowl Sunday (awesomeness) and The Bravery two days later. Now that you’re caught up in the past, here’s what’s in store for the future: Rodrigo Y Gabriela this Saturday (hell’s yeah), Ghostland Observatory on Leap Day (wooohoooo), that thing called SXSW in March, and Colin Meloy, Tift Merritt, and Mike Doughty in April. Plus a bunch of others I’m still figuring out. Whew.
Running - if you read my post about the 3M half marathon I ran a couple of weeks ago, then you’re already in the know. It’s the only race I’ve run since Race for the Cure back in early November, and I guess it’s what I had been training for the whole time. Starting in October/November I upped my mileage to 30+ miles a week, and at that time I was feeling so good I was debating about running the full marathon (which is this Sunday). Then I got sick after Thanksgiving, and that killed that since I didn’t run for a week. Anyway, after the 3M, I actually got a small foot injury which kept me off the trails for a week again, but I’m now back into the swing of things. I’m going to try to keep up the 30+ miles/week, maybe incorporate some speed workouts, but basically, I just run all the time now. :) Next race? Don’t know… perhaps the Cap10K.
Ultimate - Let’s see… I co-captained the red team for Winter League this year, which ended this past Sunday. That was fun. I also organized a team for the Houston Co-Ed Indoor tournament. Really, that’s all the ultimate I’ve done - haven’t really played any pickup, other than goaltimate once and a couple of women’s scrimmages… with the training for the half marathon, my focus was more on running than on ultimate, which I vowed to change after the race was over. So now that it is over… I’m hoping to play more ultimate, do some track workouts, throw more, get better overall. I’m thinking of trying out for some club teams in the area - not that I’m expecting to actually MAKE these teams (because I won’t!), but more for the experience and to help me become a better player. Wow, this is sounding really dorky.
And lastly, Sports - there was college football. Pretty non-eventful, other than the fact that UVA made the Gator Bowl, which is actually very impressive. Too bad the actual game was horrible! I was expecting us to lose to TT, but I think I would’ve rather had us lose by a lot rather than have us lead the whole game and fall apart in the 4th quarter… which is what happened. UGH. Kudos to an amazing Super bowl this year - sure, it would’ve been neat to see a team go undefeated for the first time since the Dolphins, and this was probably the only year it would’ve been possible for a team to do so… but the Patriots? I’m sorry, I can’t stand them. What an excellent game by the Giants, and what a play from Manning to Tyree. Amazing. And my heart and soul… college basketball. Except, my team is falling apart. I don’t even want to blog about it, I get so upset thinking about it. UGH. UGH. UGH.
To prevent ending the post on such a sour note: a friend and I are taking a hip hop class. The second class is tonight. I’ve already forgotten all the moves from last week though.
OH MY. One last thing about my life. I’ve just begun to look into buying a condo here in Austin. Exciting.
