Austin City Limits 2009… and Cake

Posted April 28th, 2009 in , , , ,

The ACL lineup was announced last night… check it out:

It’s pretty solid this year, definitely better than the past few years (the best since I’ve been in Austin probably) IMO. Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, and Beastie Boys headlining with a slue of great names top to bottom. Outside of the Beastie Boys, the headliners aren’t the most exciting for me. Being from Charlottesville I know I should love DMB, but ironically growing up in a town that idolized him because he started out there kind of annoyed me. I may still try to check him out because I do like his music… and… Charlottesville pride!

Speaking of Charlottesville… Sons of Bill is on the ticket! If you’re hitting up ACL this year (or thinking about it) you should check them out. They are alt-country, rockabilly-ish with some catchy tunes, and they are the perfect ACL band. As implied, they are from my hometown - the three main dudes are brothers (whose father’s name is really Bill) who went to my high school and are good friends of friends. I saw and hung out with them a couple of times in Charlottesville and they are good. I was always trying to get them to come to Austin, but I never thought that ACL would be it! I’m so excited for them. Congrats, Sons of Bill!

Other lineup notes: The Decemberists (WOOHOO!), Thievery Corporation, Kings of Leon, Ghostland, Toadies, B-52s, Girl Talk, Andrew Bird, Scabs, Reckless Kelly, Dr. Dog, Black Joe Lewis, Felice Brothers, Sam Roberts… more more and more!

PLUS - ACL is in October this year! It’ll still be hot, but not blistering (theoretically)…

Tickets are $185 this year, a bit pricey compared to previous years. Thank goodness I grabbed an early bird ticket (that I forgot about until they sent me an email recently telling me about my ticket)…

CAKE

Switching gears, tonight is Cake at Stubb’s! As if the ACL lineup wasn’t exciting enough for me… It’s a sold out show, and apparently Cake is playing a double set with no openers. It’s going to be aweeeeeeeeeesome. I’m super psyched.

Who else is going to Cake???
