Albums from the year 2007

Mexico City and Discopa 845 photos · Taken November 15, 2007The first time I ever flew for ultimate was to a tournament in Mexico City with other fellow Texans. After a day climbing the pyramids and exploring the city, we headed to a sports complex/resort an hour outside for some ultimate fun. Both the men's and women's teams that we brought (Los/Las Illegales) easily won the tournament. Thanks to Scotty, J, Haley, and the tourney for the borrowed photos!

Silicon Labs Marathon Relay27 photos · Taken September 30, 2007My second race ever was the first leg of the Silicon Labs Marathon Relay. I ran this race with Laura, Travis, Kristi, and Nicole, and we did awesome! I ran the 12K leg at a pace of about 8:30, which was much better than I expected.

Austin City Limits 200796 photos · Taken September 14, 2007My second ACL was just as awesome as the first, but in an entirely different way. I went solo this year, so I had the liberty of moving from stage to stage and working my way through the crowds. I did completely full days (noon-to-end) Friday and Sunday, with Saturday being split with UPA Sectionals in the morning. I also went to the Spoon aftershow the Thursday before and the Yo La Tengo aftershow the Monday after. It was a very exhausting and hot 50-day stretch that tested my limits but still very enjoyable. Highlights? Take a wild guess (*ahem* Spoon and Wilco).

Flugtag Texas 200719 photos · Taken August 25, 2007Red Bull's FlugTag came to Austin in 2007, and I made sure I was there for at least part of it.

Los Angeles and Hollywood99 photos · Taken July 31, 2007We stayed right in the heart of touristy Hollywood the last few days of our trip to California. We drove around the fancy neighborhoods of Mulholland Drive, Beverly Hills and Bel Air, and also visited UCLA and the Getty Museum.

Yosemite87 photos · Taken July 28, 2007My first visit to Yosemite National Park was amazing. Brenden, Ryan, Than and I climbed Lembert dome in Tuolumne Meadows before heading to the Valley for Bridalveil Falls and seeing El Capitan and the Half Dome.

The Giants vs. The Braves34 photos · Taken July 24, 2007I finally went to my first major league baseball game - the SF Giants vs. the ATL Braves, with Barry Bonds just two away from tying Hank Aaron's homerun record. Bonds didn't homer, unfortunately, but it was still an awesome experience.

The Pacific Coast Highway124 photos · Taken July 23, 2007The few days before my Java training, Than and I took our rental car and drove it from LAX to San Jose... most on the Pacific Coast Highway - probably one of the most beautiful drives in the country. Includes 17-Mile Drive and stops in Ventura, Santa Barbara, Monterey, and Santa Cruz.

The 4th in Charlottesville19 photos · Taken July 5, 2007I went back to Charlottesville for the Fourth to catch up with old friends and attend Mike's annual fireworks party. It was a blast, as expected, and I finally got to meet little Merlin!

My parents' visit to Austin83 photos · Taken June 8, 2007When my parents came to visit me, it was their first time in Austin. So I showed them the sights, which included a failed attempt to see the Bats (apparently they come out really late in early June!), Mount Bonnell, UT, Barton Springs, 360, good eats, a day trip to The Alamo and San Antonio, and a tour of the good ol' big State Capitol.

Lockhart and San Marcos57 photos · Taken April 1, 2007After watching Christopher Guest's hilarious "Waiting for Guffman", Than and I took a day trip to Lockhart, TX, where it was filmed. Who knew the small town had lots of cool architecture? We also stopped by San Marcos before coming back to Austin to catch the Final Four.

Jeff visiting his hometown104 photos · Taken March 26, 2007Jeff came to visit us in late March! Adventures from the visit: Barton Creek, Town Lake, Lake Travis, the 360 Bridge, Jeff's first homes, UT, the bats, and, per Tyler Hansborough, "Texas style" ping-pong.

Statesman Capitol 10K24 photos · Taken March 26, 2007I ran in my very first race at the 30th annual Statesman Capitol 10K. I finished with a time of 57 minutes, which was better than my initial goal of 1 hour, but more than my aggressive goal of 55 minutes. All good though - it's amazing that I even finished, considering that, with a little less than two miles to go, I thought (for some crazy, unknown reason) there was only 1 mile left!

SXSW 200775 photos · Taken March 17, 2007Our first SXSW experience, and it was a blast. I managed to catch two full days of FREE music, including the Twilight Sad, Apples In Stereo, Tift Merritt, Billy Joe Shaver, the Riverboat Gamblers, and What Made Milwaukee Famous. Highlights: Riverboat Gamblers' lead singer running through the crowds (and right in front of me) and climbing stuff; being within arms' reach of Billy Joe Shaver and WMMF; and getting my first setlist (WMMF).

Mt. Bonnell, Wild Basin37 photos · Taken January 26, 2007Some venturing out into nature in January. The Wild Basin was a nice discovery for us.
