Austin City Limits 2009… and Cake

The ACL lineup was announced last night… check it out:

It’s pretty solid this year, definitely better than the past few years (the best since I’ve been in Austin probably) IMO. Pearl Jam, Dave Matthews Band, and Beastie Boys headlining with a slue of great names top to bottom. Outside of the Beastie Boys, the headliners aren’t the most exciting for me. Being from Charlottesville I know I should love DMB, but ironically growing up in a town that idolized him because he started out there kind of annoyed me. I may still try to check him out because I do…

Charlottesville, Ultimate, yada yada

Here I am, back in Charlottesville! It’s been an extremely relaxing trip (for the most part) so far. I’ve basically been sleeping 10 hours every night! I don’t know how that’s holding up - I guess I was really sleep-deprived coming in. It’s been nice, though. I should be very well-rested by the time I get back to Austin (only in two days - eek).

I’ve figured out recently that wearing UVA gear is much cooler when you wear it in places that aren’t Charlottesville. While in Austin, I kept wishing I had more things to wear other than this orange…

Sweet Virginia

This past weekend I took a short trip back home to see my parents (who were totally not expecting me to permanently move to Austin before coming back one last time), take care of some errands, and do some more packing. It was a short and sweet trip, and very surreal. It felt so strange driving on roads and around places I knew so well, knowing that I was no longer a local. And yet it also felt like a trip backwards in time, like I hadn’t even moved away at all. All in all, it was a fun-filled and much-needed…

Back in the ‘Ville, March Madness

Than and I arrived safely back to Charlottesville yesterday. Funny thing is, it didn’t feel like we were gone for more than a month. It felt like we were returning from a weekend trip. The Smokies were a blast, btw (although I’m still sore from the long hike we did on Saturday). In any case, it’s good to be back. Especially when it’s 80 degrees outside.

Of course, the first thing I did when I got back was shower. There weren’t any showers in the Great Smokies. The next thing I did, naturally, was watch the Selection Show. You can probably…

BODO’S ON THE CORNER IS FINALLY OPEN

Posted June 15th, 2005 in

i’m totally not kidding. this is truly an amazing day. pictures are below. if you’re not from charlottesville, here’s the story:

bodo’s is a local bagel place that’s really awesome. before today, there were two locations in charlottesville with amazing business. back in 1995 or so (note, that’s 10+ YEARS AGO), construction began for a third bodo’s location on the corner, the hip strip of restaurants and stores for near UVA. year after year, people were anticipating the opening of another great bodo’s at a great location. a “COMING SOON” went up. i remember early in high school wondering, “when is…

thank god the students are gone! finally, no more worrying about running over annoying people that cross the street every 10 feet; no more taking 10 minutes to go from points A to B, which are practically a block apart; no more waiting forever at the gym or pool for a decent workout; no more overcrowded bars and restaurants and one-hour waits for food; no more getting pushed around between insane crowds of people walking between buildings; and of course… GREAT PARKING SPOTS!
